Art Can Save Your Life
At the core of this program was combing depth psychology and art. Depth psychology is defined by Pacifica as "... The field of study that explores how the unconscious aspects of the human experience influence psychological conditions and treatment." This branch of psychology was founded by Carl Jung and has grown through modern thought leaders like Joesph Campbell and Marion Woodward. Pacifica describes the degree in this way, "Students in this program learn strategies for tapping into the deep well of the collective unconscious as the ultimate source of creativity. In addition, students discover the value and necessity of working together in creative collaboration, which as reflected in the concept of emergence, inspires and influences new, and unexpected creative expression. Students also learn to enhance their inherent creative powers and aesthetic sensibilities through serious and prolonged engagement with the archetypal energies of the creative psyche."
This is exactly what I learned
I had anticipated going back after a year, but life had other plans for me (read previous posts)
During my leave of absence I committed to a daily creative practice so that I wouldn't lose too much momentum going back. I kept it through Covid, my husband's breakdown, my move to Alaska, every day.
I don't know if I could have lived through that year without this practice. Thankfully I'm not required to write my thesis on this experiment, to back it up with external sources, (or write it in APA style). But after a year of doing this I can say I view myself differently, I view others differently and it's cliche but I DO see the world differently. The entire time I was attending I didn't understand what "Artist" meant in relationship to myself.
Maybe that's what this blog is about?
But most importantly I made it through last year
For 2024 I redirected some of my attention towards some other things but I'm still feeling like I'm winding down.
I think I need some Art STAT
